Ok,
You've been waiting for it, and I've been very long time coming in
getting it out, but I really have been working on this! Even though
folks are getting very frustrated with me, I would have to say that the
frustration level has been below what it should be. Someone I know once
said "Never ask God for what you deserve, but instead ask for what you
want despite what you deserve." Something like that. I'm thankful you
have given me more understanding than what I deserve.
So before I make this long awaited release I'm running a few tests and a
few "lucky" folks are giving it a go. This is _not_ a finished product,
but I hope that with some exceptions you should be able to _carefully_
use it. The bootup time is several (10?) seconds because right now it
does a double check of installed fonts to try and make PageStream's font
inspection bullet proof, and typing seems very slow because the mac
timer is a 1second increment instead of a 1/60 second increment like all
other platforms, and numerous todos.
I hope that when this download comes, that you will first take a look at
the ReadMe.Macintosh.txt file which is a list of known Mac PageStream
bugs, and what I call "Macinizations" which is simply a list of things
that PageStream should implement to make it more "mac like".
To make PageStream the best Mac product it can be, I ask that you report
things to this list that seem different than the usual Mac experience. I
already know that the dialog controls are not spaced properly yet, but
I'm sure many other things than what is on the Macinization list needs
to be considered.
With all of that said, someone asked if the toolbar titles could be
shortened. Right now, PageStream has an icon for each toolbar item, and
a tooltip. That tool tip is listed in the toolbar prefs, and is shown on
other platforms when you halt the mouse over the icon for a moment. On
the Mac, it also has a text label in addition to the icon "label". Right
now, I am using the toolbar tip but some of those tips are too long. I
thought it would be easy to shorten up some of the labels by making a
copy of the tips and going from there. But it isn't so easy! anyway,
here is the list and if anyone has suggestions for shorter labels I
would appreciate it. I'm not so sure other than a few like maybe
Information to Info it really can be shortened and still be clear! And
if it is not clear then it defeats the purpose of the text label (which
as you should know can be turned off for PageStream and any other Mac
application using the standard toolbar functionality).
