Hello!
I know it has been a long time between dances, but I hope you will find
this release worth the wait!

If you have any problems, I ask that you report them on the
PageStreamMacintoshBeta mailing list so that problems can be identified
and solved as quickly as possible. This release is _not_ complete, so
the first order of business would be to read over the list of things
still to be done. They shouldn't prevent this release from being used,
but it might save you and I some aggravation.

Thanks everyone for all your help.

Happy Valentine's Day,

Deron

TODO
----
+ deselecting page in page palette causes funny offset drawing.
+ If something doesn't paste into PageStream, please run PageStream from
the Terminal and record the output it produces when you try and paste
something in the clipboard from another application that doesn't work.
PageStream will dump to the terminal what formats it does find in the
clipboard.
+ wheelmouse in palette scrolls document when at the palette limit
+ Save as file extensions
+ File overwrite warning is checked by system before the automatic file
extension is added.
+ Printing/Using Dingbats, Hatsuon, GungSeo and Alphabetum

+ missing external graphics whacks screen display
+ First new document windows opened in a session often needs
resize/refresh. This seems to be caused by a delayed toolbar opening. No
idea yet why...
+ Some file & alert requesters need to be attached to the appropriate
window.
+ Need new Bookmarks, Layers Palette and Mask Options icons.
+ Handle disabled listview items.
+ Flyout tools!

+ The font AppleMyungjo.ttf currently crashes PageStream, so for now it
is disabled within PageStream.
+ complex list items in popup (like in goto page, styles, etc). Handle
disabled popup items.
+ layout group box icon label (used on toolbox prefs).
+ Need to investigate function keys for scripts

+ Support for arrowheads in PDF files!
+ undo borders, paste/import, image fx
+ insert article name variable
+ read-only multiline text
+ new find code for missing external graphics
+ divide insert character by code pages
+ multiline text needs a scrollbar?

Oh, one other thing... the magnifying glass pointer is hosed. The
right half of it appears to the left of the pointer...

then first is is a + but when you click it is a - (and the document does get smaller with the
first click) so the function is OK

Hello Deron,

What great news!

I have downloaded and installed the Mac OS X 5.0.3.11 beta and
opened a document created in PGS 4.0.9 and all seems to be OK except
that this document is buried 5 deep in a hierachy of folders. PGS 5
won't pick up the file name from the fifth level folder but simply
names every document with the folder name.

This makes it impossible to save any changes to the document (PGS
doesn't know where to put the saved document or what name to give it.)

Also for similar reasons 'Open Recent' does not work. Since, where
one would expect to see the file name what appears is the folder name
and PGS does not know which file to open and so opens nothing.

I am sure that this problem can be quickly solved and meanwhile it is
simply great, after waiting so long, to have a working Mac OS X version.

Well done Deron!

With many thanks,

Cheerio,

Terence Casey

Do you mean it is split in half and the halves exchanged? I noticed you
are on PPC, I wonder if this is some odd byte format problem (the data
is stored correctly per platform, but maybe it needs to be in Intel
format? Seems odd...)

Andrew's problem that he is mentioning is something to do with the look
of custom mouse forms. The problem you mention is that qualifier keys
are not generating events on their own. So when you press the option or
shift key the mouse for doesn't change right away. You need to hold the
key down and move the mouse to see the new mouse form.

I have your problem fixed, plus a problem that the qual key was ignored
while dragging and timers were not firing. Still got work to do on timers...

Hi Terence,

Can you give me the complete file name/path to the document in question
so I can try and reproduce something like that on my computer? I know
that some Apple calls are limited in path lengths but I thought I
avoided all of them.

PageStream itself doesn't have much of a limitation anymore. After some
really deep paths hurting PageStream on Windows I've been migrating code
to a completely limitless set of internals. Of course, still much work
to do before that is complete but where the code has not been rewritten
the limit itself is quite large (and larger than most systems allow even
now).

Thanks,

Deron

Hello Deron.

Thanks for your prompt reply. In fact the problem is not as I first
reported. In my haste to get something off I misinterpreted what I
was seeing. It doesn't seem to be a 'deep folder' problem but rather
an 'any folder' problem.

The file I first opened is:

Users/tdc/Documents/PAGESTREAM DOCS/CHURCH/Touchline/Production/TL
134 Feb 2008 - 14 Feb 2008

When I open this file the title shown at the top of the window is
'Production'. This name also appears in the 'Open Recent' menu.

Since there are so many folders I thought that it was a 'deep folder'
problem. However, after reading your message, I created a new file on
the Desktop:

Users/tdc/Desktop/PGS 5 - Trials/Test File 2

When I open this file 'PGS 5 - Trials' appears at the top of the
window and in the 'Open Recent' menu.

I can't reopen either of these files using 'Open Recent'.

Incidentally I am also getting the distorted magnifier. It looks as
if about 2/3 of the circle is cut off by a bounding box or something
like that and then reproduced about 5mm to the left.

I will be interested to watch the development of these bug fixes but
I am going away for about 3 weeks so I won't be able to participate
myself until mid March.

With many thanks,

Cheerio,

Terence Casey

Opps!

Ok, this has nothing to do with file depth, or file names, or anything.
Just flat broken! I had _just_ fixed a bug in the File Requester code to
try and fix a long standing problem with file extensions in the OS X
version and in doing so broke this. Not sure why I never noticed, but
the change was just the day before I released and I can make all kinds
of excuses if you want to hear them Wink

Anyway, fixed for next release. I hope. I did check it over this time,
but I also have made a bunch of changes to fix a few loose ends. Call it
bleeding edge Wink

Hello Deron,

Thanks for the update. I will download a newer version when I get
back. I expect that by then there will have been several updates.

And yes, I should have mentioned that I am using a G4 PPC Mac running
OS X 10.4.11.

With many thanks,

Cheerio,

Terence Casey
