Hi;
New to macs. Had been using Pagerstream for AmigaOne., Was wondering is the osx version
of Pagestream useful for serious work? Could I easily transfer all my brochures and booklets
to the OSX Pagestream and keep developing the?
My amigaone died and I bought a mac mini. Switching is like learning a foreign language with
new hand gestures.

Hi,

I'll have to let others answer this for you, since I'm a bit biased. My
opinion is that it is very functional, but save early/save often/keep
backups. It has a few quirks of its own in the Mac specific code, but
the core code is more developed and stable than another other platform
currently.

Greetings All...

Just have a (hopefully) quick question for Deron and/or the group...

I've been using PageStream OSX through the alpha and beta stages on
an iBook G4, currently running OSX 10.4.11. As all things eventually
go, we fear that our iBook will soon be passing on to Silicon Heaven
(or possibly Silicon Hell, considering how feisty and uncooperative
it's been lately).

In simple terms, the iBook G4 has finally hit that point where money
is far better spent on purchasing a new laptop, rather than
continually wasting funds in a futile attempt at keeping this one
going on a bit longer...

As such, my wife decided to take care of the situation and recently
informed me that a shiny (er, "black") new MacBook will be arriving
at our door shortly -- a 2.4 GHz Intel Dual Core 2, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB
HDD, lots of other nifty additions, and running OS 10.5.4!

Woohoo!

Now, getting back to my actual question...

Am I correct in my assumption that the current PageStream OSX beta
(v5.0.4.21) IS a universal binary and thus totally compatible with my
new OS 10.5.4 Intel Macbook?

Or in other words, will PageStream basically run the same on my Intel
MacBook as it did (does) on my PPC iBook G4... or are there some
functional differences that I'll be running into when using in with
Leopard?

Also, just curious, but does PgS run natively on the Intel Macs, or
does it run via Rosetta?

My apologies for any potentially dumb questions asked above -- I've
unfortunately had NO real world exposure in using Leopard to date (an
unfortunate side-effect of my being disabled, retired, and VERY
sick), and thus am not entirely such what to expect... at least until
I can start digging through the system personally. Just wanna make
sure I can continue using my current copy of PageStream OSX as is...
until the next update, of course!

As always, many thanks in advance for any wisdom you folks can pass my way!
Regards,
Jeff

Sorry for your health!

PageStream is a universal binary, and runs just fine on an Intel laptop.
After all, it is what PageStream is developed on Smile

Hi JMG,

I've only had OS X PgS for a few weeks and haven't yet really pushed it,
but I have found no show-stoppers yet.

PgS seems to load both my Amiga and Windows sourced docs fine. Despite
the fact I have all my PgS fonts located centrally on a server, with all
PgS versions set up to use these fonts, there is an issue of font
names/family naming conventions being different for each platform, so you
have to "convert" the fonts as the documents are loaded - which luckily
PgS can remember.

They will have to be "convert"ed and not "display"ed because the documents
won't print correctly unless the fonts are "convert"ed on loading. The
difference between the two seems to be that PgS will ask you if you wish
to save the document on quitting if you have "convert"ed fonts when the
doc was loaded.

Apart from that quirk, so far so good :^).

Thanks for your reply Steve. What you report sounds promising. A little conversion is not a
big problem. I had to put .jp,/png etc extensions on all my photos and art. Mac like
windows needs extensions to read files.
