when I click on the new page icon in the navigator, or try getting a
dialog via file>new... it just brings up a blank page (not sure what
size), so there's no choice of page size or orientation - in other
words: no dialog box!

I downloaded version 5.0.4.26

I hope it can be sorted soon.
Heather.

Hi Heather,

That is one of the user interface issues that are being tweaked in the
latest releases for the Mac and which are not updated in the documentation.

Two things you can do. One, after creating (or loading) a document, you
can change master page size in the Master Page Setup dialog and change
the default size as well.

The other is to simple hold down the shift key when choosing New
Document or clicking the New button in the navigator. In prior versions,
this was reversed. No shift got you the dialog, shift created the
default size document.

Hope that is clear and helps,

Deron

Hi Deron:

Hope life's been treating you well these days!

I've got a quick question for you regarding Templates -- unless I've
really overlooked somethong somewhere, there doesn't seem to be any
way of actually OPENING up any user-created templates, the Direct
Templates or Home&Office forms.

I've noticed that there's an "OpenTemplate.py" script buried in /
Contents/SharedSupport/Scripts/WIP/, but it doesn't work. I'm assuming
the WIP is "Work in Progress".

In the meantime, is there any new easy method of opening and or
selectng templates other than opening up the package, then hunting
through the hundreds of templates entries hoping to find the "correct"
one?

Also regarding scripting...

For the longest time, in Preferences/Editors/, the three "Send to
Scripts" listed as defaults are for specific Amiga editors, none of
which have on the Mac. While I understand this, some people new to the
Mac and/or PageStream may not, and may be confused when they try to
find said programs. Additionally, in the current v5.0.4.27, these
scripts don't exist, so anyone using a "Send To Editor" in their
default form will get nowhere. Just an FYI.

Checking out the PgS package, I've noticed that in the aforementioned
"WIP" script directory contains scripts for Send To: BME, PageLiner,
ProVector and TurboText. Again, we don't have these on the Mac -- as
such, any chance that we can get some Mac specific scripts instead?

I've tried using using the included SendPictureToEditor.py and
SendTextToEditor.py scripts. It seems that the SendPictureToEditor.py
attempts to send to PhotoShop as default (which is great), and it
works fine; also changed the script and tried out GraphicConverter and
also worked fine.

However, I had no success with the SendTextToEditor.py script. It
appears to be trying to send text to something called Nedit (which
I've never heard of), but I changed the script to BBedit and even just
the standard TextEdit and had no success. The programs DO start up,
but the text is not being transferred into the text editor.

In any event, it would be nice if we had a standard selecton of other
popular Mac graphic and text editors to choose from if you (or someone
else) is up to the task. (Unfortunately, my Python programming skills
are essentially nil, so I can't help like I'd like to).

If I may make a suggestion, it would be terrific if we could have a
just one python script each for graphic and text, but which would
handle several different popular editors; i.e., when we use the
script, it would pop up a requester asking which program we want to
send the graphic to (PhotoShop, GraphicConverter, etc.), and even
possibly a "default" button so it would remember the user's choice.
Same for text...

Hope that all made some sense...

Anyway, thanks again Deron for the PageStream updates... it's looking
ever better with each new update!

Regards,

Jeff Krispow

Hi Terence,

Try control-d n [space] or control-d m [space]

Hi Deron...

Sorry to send this mess again, but it looks like it was accidentally
skipped over somewhere along the line.

One update: Just after I sent the previous, I suddenly remembered that
user-created templates open as normal documents (duh!). I think I'll
blame that brain fart on the suddenly soaring temperatures here in
Los Angeles which are causing overheated cerebellums everywhere...

But I still can't figure any way around the Paper Direct/Home & Office
Forms issues.

Thanks!

Hi Jeff,

No idea what was skipped over. I thought I answered this, but maybe not.
Sure seems familiar...

Yes, they open as normal documents, but the file path is zeroed and you
have to specify a new file name to save as.

Home & Office file names should be self explanatory and the Paper Direct
templates are matched to Paper Direct papers.

Hello Deron,

Thank you for your message of 8 Oct 2008, at 17:35.

Thank you for your usual prompt an helpful reply. It works OK but, so
far, only with Helvetica.

Arial, which I mostly use, and Times give an open square box instead
of a space.

With many thanks,

Cheerio,

Terence Casey

Hi Terence,

I can't make font designers do a good job Smile I am surprised how many
fonts don't have these characters or have them wrong, but they do exist
in some fonts.

Helvetica is actually wrong here (gives the same spacing for
enspace/emspace and space) but DejaVu Sans is correct for example. A
high dollar Adobe font doesn't have the character defined at all. Funny.

If a font is wrong, you can 1) fix the font, 2) use a different font 3)
dont' use the character. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
