Hi All,

Running under OS 10.6.4 here.

Prior to the last day or so, I had success in saving a PageStream 5057 document in PDF format. However, I cannot recall exactly when nor whether 5056 or 5057 was used.

Various trials convinced me that attempting to print directly to my laser printer was a dead end, and I think that has been confirmed by other users; e.g., <ianhutcg@onetel.com>.

However, yesterday and today, all attempts to print as PDF file failed using both 5056 and 5057. PageStream goes through the motion of claiming that it is carrying out the operation, but on completion I cannot find the PDF equivalent!!!

I suspect the iMac for the following reason:

Recently, I allowed some software upgrades on the iMac. One resulted in the OS changing from 10.6.3 to 10.6.4 and that was about one week ago. A day or two ago, there was another upgrade -- something to do with Safari. The iMac claimed that all upgrades were successful, but ....

Yesterday I tried to use iTunes, and was told that it was corrupted and should be reinstalled. I had not used iTunes for a couple of weeks, so I suspect one of the "upgrades" performed the corruption.

So I'm wondering how other 5057 users can use PageStream's "print to PDF" successfully!!!

Hi Don,
haven't gone back to fully using PS, yet.
Read your mail and tried [5.0.5.7] a simple document that I'd saved for warping test and masking.
pdf saved to file but loading file afterwards had the image that is masked in the program in its entirety -partially blocking the warped header (that did seem to be OK)- and a couple of lines of the text that should have been around the masked image simply underneath the image; most of the text had been omitted.

Ok, you must not forget that this list is for problems. The other people
who can print without problems generally won't be posting a note. As I
recall, Ian's problem is he has multiple printers hooked up and has some
rather bazaar behavior going on but that he does get pages to print but
has an issue that could be font specific.

Just make sure that you have "Use System Printing" enabled in the
General panel of PageStream's Preferences. Do you get an error message?

Works just fine here, and for several others. More likely you are
looking in the wrong place for the file. Make sure you select the proper
folder in the file selector. If that is not the problem, and you suspect
some kind of corruption (very unlikely, but I can't say impossible),
then redownload PageStream.

If you have a PageStream document that does not reproduce itself
properly in a PDF, then please send the example PageStream document to
me privately at support@pagestream.org.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for checking. You test file sounds more sophisticated than mine, but at least the PDF file was created. Maybe I should re-install PageStream. Hmmmmm!

Yes, I have that setting.

PS> Do you get an error message?

Not a word. PageStream presents its "progress" panel and when the printing is completed, no further comments. No GR.

Yes, I thought of that since I'm so OS X illiterate, but .... If I ask PageStream to SAVE the PageStream file to a specific directory, then the save goes where I expect. It should not be different when sending a PDF file to some directory.

Think I have done that as noted above.

I'm going to download 5057 again! That reminds me: Where is all the PageStream stuff on the Mac? All I can find is PgS5057.app and Pgs5056.app which are located in /applications!!

First I will download 5057 again, install, and check how "print to PDF" goes.

By checking dates on the Mac, I know now that 5057 has never created a PDF file. The one PDF that was created was done by 5056:

Content Creator: PageStream5.0.5.6 Pro 03/21/10 for MacIntosh.

If 5057 continues to fail after re-installing, then I'll send the files.

Sorry, if you look at my email I was speaking to Mike who wrote that he
had a file that didn't reproduce certainly elements properly in the PDF.
If you can't create _any_ PDF, then something else is wrong. Sending me
a file won't do any good (no harm either). I've generated several dozens
PDF files with 5.0.5.7, and I know others that have.

I only say that because the Save as PDF file dialog does not default to
the same place as the Save Document file dialog. I do it all the time
where I hit "save" and go look for the file and it is in a different
folder because I forgot to navigate to the place I wanted to save the
PDF to.

The PageStream .app bundles (which by default will be PageStream.app but
as you have obviously figured out you can rename them) exist where ever
you moved them to. The .dmg provides a shortcut folder for you to copy
the app bundle to your Applications folder, but that is just a
conviencnce item for a suggested organization.

PageStream itself only puts preference/user items inside the
~/Library/Application Support/PageStream5 folder which are items that
are shared between PageStream versions.

Ok! I'll look around some more!!! I've been looking elsewhere -- i.e., other than the directory that I thought was the target -- but no luck yet. It must be some stupid thing I am doing. Very bloody frustrating.

OK.

Ah, very good! So that is how the 'new' installments get the relevant information.
