Hi All,

Using PageStream 5058 (Mac) running under OS X 10.6.4

Open a 'new' document. Place the text cursor somewhere. Either within a text frame or not within a text frame.

Type P. Highlight the character P, then from the menu Type -> Font -> Choose... select the Symbol font. Click the OK button. When PageStream returns to its screen, the highlighted P shows up as a black slug. Click to deactivate the slug. The slug is replaced with whitespace and there is no sign of the Greek letter PI. I can repeat this annoyance with other characters: Gamma, gamma, .... However, there have been occasions where I was able to create the Greek PI.

I have NOT found another font which will do this, although I've not tried very many -- about six.

Is the above peculiar to the font Symbol? If so, then I hope it can be repaired.

I am running the same version of PageStream but Mac OS X 10.6.5 (why don't you update?) and the procedure of above works fine.
The PI character of the Symbol font appears.
As well Type -> Insert character works. I can see the PI in the character table too. And you?

I suppose, probably, the problem is in your font.

Just haven't got around to it! Will do.

The character PI (uppercase pi) displays properly in PageStream's "Insert Character" panel, but I cannot get it to transfer from the "Insert Character" panel to a text frame or a text block.

This is a Mac font. I don't have any problems with the Symbol font when working with other Mac programs. Also, if the character is properly presented in the "Insert Character" panel, then why can it not be transferred to a text frame?

When you were using 10.6.4, did "Insert Character" work properly with the Symbol font?

That 10.6.4 is the problem seems unlikely, but I'll try 10.6.5!! Thanks for the information.

I am sorry, but I have never tried it with 10.6.4

Yes, mine was only a suggestion, not connected (I think) to the problem with fonts.

Now I have made another try: if I insert a character into an existing text, I have seen that "insert character" does not change the font of the type to be inserted.
So, in example, if I am using the Helvetica font and I go to insert a character of another font, the font of the character inserted however remains Helvetica.
I have to change the font of the character inserted by my own.
This problem does not depends by font. It is a common problem.

Yes, but in a recent message, Deron announced that he had fixed that and the fix will undoubtedly be part of the next release. Smile
