Hi All,

I'm printing to an HP Color LaserJet 2605dn. In the <General> tab of <PageStream -> Preferences...> and in the <Locale> area, the option "Use System Printing" is active. The PPD file that is used is the same one that I use when printing from my Amiga system using PageStream 4.1.5.6. On the Mac, the OS is version 10.6.6.

The document is three pages. The problems encountered include:

-1- Double page printing:
In PageStream's print panel, I've specified to print but a single copy, but with the page range specified as

From: 1 to: 1

the printer produces a first copy, and will then print a second copy if there is a sheet in the paper feed tray.
This happens also when the page range has been specified as "From: 1 to: 2". In the 'Copies' area, it does not matter whether "Two-Sided" is active or not, one still receives two copies instead of one.

-2- Double Quote outside of text frame:
Suppose a line begins with the double quote character (the fancy one), as in

"in the morning" it was .....

then the leading " is placed outside the text frame. Usually, this is not noticeable but on the first page of this document it was. Explain this in a bit.

-3- Opacity setting ignored on printout:
The first page was a composite of a photograph, set as the background, over which was placed a text frame. With the photo pushed to the back with <Object -> Stack>, the text frame was adjusted using <Object -> Line & Fill...> with the fill <Color> set to White at 100% and the <Blend> setting at

Opacity 70%

the resulting page was very nice, the photo acting as a nice frame for the text, and part of the photo forming an elegant background for the text. However, when printed via PageStream, the "elegant background" from the photo was missing and the page was printed as if the Opacity setting had been 100%.

In PageStream's 'Print' setup, under <Color Matching>, I was using the "ColorSync" option and the selected 'Profile' was <hp color LaserJet CMYK v402>. The only other reasonable profile was <hp color LaserJet RGB v402> but I did not try it.

It was on this page that I noticed that the double quote " character was not within the text frame. One can compensate for this by specifying a tiny left indent for that page, but is seems to me that " should remain within the text frame and not "hang out".

-4- Color artifacts:
On the PageStream printout, on the left edge of the photo there was a small (about 2 points) blue line that was not on the page seen on the monitor. It was as if a 'blue' shadow had been specified, but the edges of the photo were NOT stroked in <Object -> Line & Fill...>. Same thing with the lower edge, but only 1 point and in red. The top and right edges did NOT show such artifacts. The same phenomena was observed on the edges of the text frame.

-5- The PDF correction:
So I saved the .PGS file as .PDF and then used Preview to print the .PDF version. On printout, the blending worked as expected although I had to adjust the Opacity setting (back in PageStream) to "get it right". The artifacts noted in -4- did not appear.

Since I'm not very keen on transforming from .PGS to .PDF before printing, I'm wondering if I've missed something in my setup within PageStream.
